Breathing Life Into Winter
The existing rink is entirely weather–dependent and offers minimal amenities. In some winters it has been open for less than a week, making it impossible to schedule events, lessons, leagues or to promote it for the village.

By installing a refrigerated coil system, installing new dark–sky–friendly lighting and expanding the warming house, we’ll create an inviting, consistent place for skating, hockey, broomball, curling, sledding and a place for people of all ages to gather. With a refrigerated ice system we can ensure ice from mid–November through early March, finally enabling the village and community to promote the rink and its activities to residents and visitors alike.
The rink will come to life with activities, including:
- Open skating
- Theme nights for kids (Frozen, Harry Potter, Marvel)
- Youth skating lessons
- Broomball league
- Youth hockey league
- Pond hockey league
- Figure skating and figure skating demonstrations
- Cookouts and warming by the fires
- Birthday parties
- Sledding and snowbank climbing
- Return of the Door County Pond Hockey Tournament
- Broomball Tournament
- Curling
What About Summer?
The new facility will be more than a winter hub. By pouring a flat surface we are creating
opportunities for a much wider array of activities all year long.
The most exciting opportunity is that this facility will be one of the best pickleball facilities in the
area, with room for up to 10 courts for tournaments. It will also eliminate the conflicts between
pickleball and tennis courts. The courts will also have access to the great new warming house
facility for concessions, restrooms, changing rooms and gathering space.
The surface will also be used for outdoor basketball, inline skating, youth bicycling and all manner
of kids play.
With the construction of a new warming house, fire pits, benches and lighting enhancements, the
rink also has the potential to host more community gatherings, birthday parties, festivals, cycling
events and many other activities. The warming house could potentially serve as a teen center all
year long.
