TERESA K. HILANDER RINK
The Sister Bay Ice Rink was first created in 1996 when a group of hockey and skating enthusiasts rallied local parents, tradesmen, and young adults to build an ice rink at the Little League Field location on Mill Road. A warming house and wooden boards soon became host to hundreds of people on Wednesday nights for a game called broomball.
In 2004, when the village built the fire station on that location, the rink was moved to the newly created Sister Bay Sports Complex. Unfortunately, when the village poured the surface for the new rink it was designed incorrectly for an ice rink, with a concave surface that requires 33,000 gallons of water to level out. It was also poured with seams that drain water and create cracks. Because of the slope, it’s not a great surface for other sports like Pickleball.
